The market

Marine work in Pascagoula

Pascagoula is the single biggest shipbuilding cluster on the Gulf Coast — Ingalls Shipbuilding is the largest manufacturing employer in Mississippi, building destroyers and amphibious ships, with Bollinger's Mississippi yards next door in Moss Point and Escatawpa. AMS has crews working the Pascagoula market now.

Pascagoula's runway is about as long as marine labor demand gets: six DDG-51 destroyers under the FY23–FY27 multiyear, an amphibious-ship award worth up to $9.472 billion with workload projected into the early 2030s, and the Coast Guard's Polar Security Cutter planned for production here. A 2025 GAO review found all seven of the Navy's private shipbuilders reporting recruitment and retention problems — demand is outrunning the labor pool. AMS has active crews in the Pascagoula market and is hiring pipe welders, pipefitters, structural welders, and shipfitters at $35–$40 an hour plus overtime. Résumé optional; apply online.
