Marine Trade Jobs in Houston, TX

Pipe welders, pipefitters, structural welders, and shipfitters — a market AMS recruits from.

The market

Marine work in Houston

The Houston-Galveston ship channel is one of the busiest marine-industrial corridors in the country, with ship-repair and fabrication yards up and down the channel. It's one of the East Texas markets AMS actively recruits welders and fitters from.

Houston's marine outlook is expanding beyond repair. Gulf Copper's distributed-build role on Navy DDG-51 destroyer modules — with the first grand blocks erected at Ingalls in July 2026 — ties the region's fabrication base into national shipbuilding programs, on top of the largest port complex in the country by waterborne tonnage (USACE 2023). The metro's roughly 15,850 welders make it America's deepest craft pool, and its most contested (BLS, May 2025). AMS actively recruits pipe welders, pipefitters, structural welders, and shipfitters from the Houston market for Gulf Coast work at $35–$40/hr plus overtime, travel and per diem common.
